An Interview With Me

I was going to write this dream sequence where my characters interviewed me but I really don’t have the time to give it all that. So I decided to do a simple interview with Bland Interviewer #1.

Bland Interviewer #1: So Scott tell us who you are and such.
Scott: Well I’m Scott Bryan. I live in Northern Utah with my wife and four kids. We have two dogs, two cats and a few fish.

Bland Interviewer #1: What do you do for a living?
Scott: I’m a drafter for a place called Envirocare of Utah. They dispose of low level hazardous waste. I draw up plans for buildings, roads and other things using AutoCAD Land Desktop.

Bland Interviewer #1: What are your hobbies? Interests?
Scott: For hobbies I’ve got my computer hobbies and I collect action figures. I also buy a comic book Trade Paper Back now and then. My interest in comic books stems way back to the early 70s. I had an issue of Avengers in one hand and an issue of Justice League in the other. As I got older I picked up other titles. In my teens I was collecting almost all the Marvel titles and most of the DC ones. When I went on my mission I dropped down to four and in ’98 as bills piled up and children were being born I dropped completely. I’m trying slowly to get the stories I missed through Trade Paper Backs. I only want Avengers and JLA stuff (for the most part).

Bland Interviewer #1: What brought on the idea for Caption the Pic?
Scott: I’ve had experience doing silly videos with a friend of mine. He had these Star Trek action figures and we would goof around. It got very old after awhile. Then I saw Toy Fare’s Twisted Mego Theatre and got inspired from there. It’s really fun for me to set up the figures while wondering what people will make of it.

Bland Interviewer #1: What other computer hobbies do you have?
Scott: Besides Caption the Pic I create micro heroes and I write stories. I really enjoy writing for the Tales of the Parodyverse board.
Bland Interviewer #1: How did that start?
Scott: One day in ’98 the Avengers Assemble site wasn’t working so I did a search for the Avengers. Found the Avengers Message Board. I started posting there and while there I discovered all these other cool Comic Boards sites. I would flip from board to board keeping up on the comics that I could no longer collect. I would read spoilers, save jpgs and such. When I had something to say or ask I would post as “Access”. See Access was the only co-owned character from both DC & Marvel. This way I could go to any board and not be out of place.
Then one day some guy started posting messages about his character beating each hero. He would post them on all the boards. I thought it was a cool idea so I followed him, posting messages about Access going around fixing his messes. We had fun and he liked it.
That got me thinking. See I used to plot out stories in my head while doing boring jobs. This new way to do a story was fun so I wrote my first Cross-Message board story. I had the X-Men foe known as Proteus go from board to board fighting the heroes from both DC & Marvel. I enjoyed it so much I did a much bigger Cross- Message board story called the Infinite Crisis. I put in elements from all the major comic sagas into that one. We had Korvac vs. the Anti-Monitor and then against the Beyonder. Lots of fun.
Bland Interviewer #1:That’s all well and good but how does these lead to the Parodyverse?
Scott: Well some of the original posters of the BZL (The original name of the board) read parts of my story and mentioned the BZL. I came, read a few stories and liked it. So to make a grand entrance I posted cryptic messages as the Lurker. From there the Reality War was launched which introduced Amazing Guy and Trickshot to the board. After a few months I created Jack Rabbit and Justin Tyme.
Then the JBH started.

Bland Interviewer #1: It seems all you’ve been writing for a long time is the Crisis. How do you feel about that? Why is that? What can we expect in the future with that?
Scott: It’s true. See, a long time ago, when I first started posting, I thought a Crisis would be fun to do and I was right. It’s a blast! I created Justin Tyme and the History as a means to provide characters through out history to show in Crisis. I created the alternate Earths for the same reason. So in all my stories I’ve been building up to this Crisis. There is a plan to bring some of my character’s stories to an end, others to move on to a different direction and some new characters to be created. We’re at #8 right now. It’s planned out to 14 parts (so far) plus the aftermath.
Bland Interviewer #1: Why is it taking so long?
Scott: I want it to be a true tribute to Crisis which means it HAS to feature darn near every character to have ever been in the Parodyverse stories. I can’t show everyone but I’m trying to come close. Heck, even former board tech guy character Crimson Bolt appeared! Also, it WOULD be out quicker but I’m rotating with my other project.

Bland Interviewer #1: Alright, we all know what that is.
Scott: Most people know that I’m writing, or trying to write, a novel. Right now I’m still in the writing part. I’ve got 78,692 words so far and the end is still a ways away. I’m three fourths of the way to completion. What’s incredible about this story is how sometimes it flows. I still get writer’s block at times but when I do I stop and think what the characters would do at the point. Then it flows some more. I’ve got a friend who knows a lot about vampires that I can ask questions too. Ian has been great as well because I’ve needed to get info on London circa 1690s. This thing all started with a simple Parodyverse story but evolved into a novel.
After I finally finish it I’ll need to have at least ten people read it and see if it sucks or I missed something in my grammar and story flow. After they review it I’ll need to make changes as per what they said. If for instance I send it to Jay and he says, “She should be older.” I can throw out his advice if I want too. But if my wife, Ian, Willard AND Jay all say that, then I need to consider what they said cause I’m too close too it.
After those changes are done I can find an agent and shop for small publishers. Then comes the pain of rejections. Maybe, if I’m blessed, this will get accepted by someone and the cravings I feel for it to be published will finally be satisfied. I don’t know, we’ll see when it happens. All I know is I HAVE to keep at it. After I finish another Crisis issue I NEED to return to the novel and work some more on it. I keep flipping back and forth. I don’t know how long this thing is going to keep coming. I mean I’m afraid one day I would go back to it and not have any more idea on where to go. Maybe that would never happen but I don’t want to take any chances.
Bland Interviewer #1:So that’s why it takes forever to get Crisis?
Scott: Yup.

Bland Interviewer #1:What will you do AFTER you finish Crisis?
Scott: I’m planning on kicking the micro heroes into high gear. I’ll finish that pesky Abysmal Grey I’ve been holding onto forever for Ian and then move onto Ebony, Nitz, JJJ, the Baroness, Glory, Pel and so many more. Maybe I’ll retool some pictures as well.

Bland Interviewer #1: Well Scott that’s about it. Thank you for your time.
Scott: You’re welcome Mr. Bland Interviewer #1.
