Epitome was at his desk plotting and studying. He was good at that, but even the more dedicated of men needed a break sometime. He hadn’t had many in the LL. Excepting a selected minority, the Llers’s conversations weren’t too deep or witty, but consisted more of discussing last night film or favourite football team…or that it seemed to him.
He didn’t want to admit it to himself, but was looking forward now to unwind with the same silly chat he despised. Anything that didn’t involve national security issues would do. Perhaps it was time to make some friends at his current home. Dancer was in his mind as the first option. Even Lisa or Lee would do. With this intention he went to the rec room where he found Yo, Lisa and Dancer…2 of 3, not too bad.
Carelessly he grabbed a magazine to get wind of the conversation. Blushing he put it back looking guiltily to the others. No a big dial, but he really wasn’t interested in the 100 best ways to have the big O with your guy.
“Bored?” Lisa asked. The woman didn’t miss a bit. “Today is girls night in, so there is plenty of wine and pedicures. We are in the process of killing each other over who is cuter Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise. Care to join us?”
Epitome ignored her mocking tone and seriously answer that he wasn’t into men. The conversation kept going with plenty of giggling, wine, noises, swearing and pizza. Dancer and Lisa seemed to be having a great time, with each of her toes painted of a different colour …he decided to let Yo out of his thoughts…The genderless being was directing amused looks at him. He found it unnerving. Odd, Yo seemed to be well liked, having in Visionary his closest friend. Strange couple…
“Why is Visionary a Legionaire?”
The sudden silence that his thought out loud generated unnerved him even more. “I mean, he is powerless and not particularly clever, no particularly valiant…” That was all he could say before noticing Lisa amused and condescending smile (what was with these women?. He could end thinking himself of a clown if they kept doing it).
“He has his value. Haven’t you read the files?. Between other occasions, he proved to be invaluable when helping Yo to defeat the Apostate…ok, just by dying, but he showed true courage, didn’t he?. He was also crucial for the Mob Rules case…ok, out of stupidity, but he proved himself once and again in this particular occasion. And finally, but not less important, he is good babysitting. He greets his teeth when I ask him to do it, but he does a good job of it.”
“He helped to save Yo-planet, right?. Don’t remember now how being doing it, but he did big time and he is grudgingly caring. Taking care of cute Asil, not so cute but still cute Kerry and even less cute but cute Fleabot. He keep them out of problems and troubles…and giving Yo to Rabito…Visionary is fun to also have around…Yo works better if there is fun and happiness, no pun intended…and Lisa needs to punch someone with words anyway…she is better at work that way too” Yo contributed happily.
“Look, tough guy, is not the bigger power what counts but what you do with it!” said enthusiastically a tipsy Dancer giggling uncontrollably and falling down from the couch.
“So you see, Epitome…Visionary is crucial for the interlinking of the team, having the odd briulliant idea, making people feel at home, having a normal shoulder where to cry, making everybody feel better if only by comparison, showing true courage being as you said powerless…And that is all I will say with my lawyer drank” Lisa said, also giggling. Epitome couldn’t see the joke anywhere…”But, and listen carefully now, but if you say any of it to Visionary or anybody else, I will perjure I don’t know what your talking about…and I will sue you !”
More giggles followed the outburst and Epitome decided that that was enough unwind for one night and went back to plot and study. The information learned wasn’t small. Lisa was a woman of many layers and more complex he has thought possible, Dancer drank more than a pirate of the Caribbean, Yo’s toes were painted purple with pink dots and some way Visionary had earned a spot in the Legion
That is how Yo sees it. Sorry I am too tired and sleepy to do more research and make my point better
