The Monster Hunters Club Membership and Cast List

Summer 1951

In which the various current members of the Club and some few of their friends and allies are portrayed.

Giles Meridian (Mage) [Ian C]: astronomer trained in dimensional magics by a pair of Astral Dragons who are observing our multiverse. He is particularly good at spotting extraplanar activity, and at bringing the mind and mood-altering effects of the Astral currents to this world. Meridian has picked up an unfortunate phobia for libraries.

"Professor" Angharad ap Griffeths (Academic) [Liz C]: feisty archaeologist and anthropologist with two distinctive characteristics - she is a retired herald for the terrible Morrigan, and she is occasionally protected by a sanity-mangling Servitor of the Outer Gods. The Prof is also the unwilling wielder of the Voodoo Starstone Staff, an evil necromantic instrument (from case #5)

James "Jimmy Max" Maxtible (Gallant - Bard subclass)[David S]: high-spirited bard sworn to uphold true love and beauty, grandson of two founder Monster Hunters; a trouble magnet. Jimmy is very charming, and given enough time to chat with people he can usually convince them to do whatever he likes. He can also counteract sound-based magics.

Maraud Jean Kerim min Qayrawan (Genie-summoner – Mage subclass)[Clive D]: North African genie summoner, amusingly served by his three gens (minor genies), who can search the Far Realms for magics their master can then use. Qayrawun currently has the misfortune to owe the Seelie Court a favour, and is seeking a lost sister sold to slavery when they were both children.

Dr Dorian Aveyard (Mage) Vice president [occasionally Pete S]: brilliant, arrogant, sarcastic psychiatrist graduate of Thoresby College School of Occult Studies; an accomplished button-pusher specialising in mind magics and irritating the opposition. Aveyard specialises in magics of the mind, and is an accomplished hypnotist and dream-reader.

Richard Selkirk (Mage) [Nick R]: absent minded genius architect (yes, he is versed in non-Euclidian geometry) from Thoresby College; specialising in magics of dimension and diagram; Aveyard's best (some say only) friend. Selkirk is notoriously vague about most things, shuffling round in carpet slippers and seeming not to pay much attention. When he does focus his mind however he is a formidable intellect. His magics usually involve the distortion of space.

Patrick Revell (Thief Mage) Treasurer [Tony J]: a quiet Protestant Irishman with hidden talents; he has had a piece of fundamental shadow planted within him by minions of the sinister Shadow Empress which has aided his development as a Shadow Mage. He is also an accomplished thief whose natural stealth is augmented by his skills as a magician of shadow.

Genevieve Fauçonburg (Spelldancer - Mage subclass) [Sally W]: elegant ballerina trained as a spelldancer by the Muses of legend; by dancing she can unleash magical power for a wide range of effects, and is protected from psionic and mental attack. She is in serious trouble because her immortal wizard husband has a lien on her soul and has been claimed by Chia Caranques los Llanos (see the Rogues Gallery).

M. Anthony Flaxton (Cleric) Secretary [Mike C]: Red cross missionary and social reformer, a cleric in ability although he was expelled from theological college; the son of an old member. Flaxton is also good at spotting clues and piecing together events at crime scenes. He doesn’t like injustice very much.

Albrecht Arnheim (Elementalist – Cleric subclass)[Chris M]: easy-going Caribbean island hopper who has inherited his Monster Hunter father's gifts as an Elementalist; his taste for ganja is all his own. Albrech also has a gift for getting on with people, and for detecting any decent restaurant in a ten mile radius.

Malgazarta Maledicta (Witch – mage subclass) [Jo M]: apprentice witch (although she slew her master) and attitude-on-legs; youngest of the informal group aged around nineteen now. As a witch she is not only sensitive to spirits and able to craft minor blessings and curses but she is also proficient in herbalism and minor potions. She cannot affect iron with her magics, but her athame can harm creatures which usually require magical weapons to hurt them.

Dawn and Aurora D'Aosta (Weather Priestess – Cleric Subclass & Enchantress – Mage subclass) [NPC] Dawn is the President at the start of our tale: the D'Aosta twins were raised in F aerie, tutored by the Russian fairy-tale figure Baba Yaga, and have developed skills as a weather priest and an enchantress (of the charming type) respectively. Dawn is serious, Aurora is fun. Their faerie heritage means that only one of them is present on Earth at once, exchanging at midnight every full moon.

Hank "Ray-Gun" Radshaw (Scientist/Engineer) [Philip H] physicist, inventor, eccentric scientific adventurer, the man who punched Oppenheimer on the nose. He is expert at fixing, tinkering, and adapting things. Radshaw has an occasional relationship with Susan Slade, "Control" of the British government’s Grey Operations.

Tanzania "Zany" Quilp (Alchemist Thief) [Charlotte B]: homunculus alchemist, recently housed in her sixth cloned body. Zany has a number of useful forensic and pathology skills, an expertise in arcane chemistry, and a fair understanding of clockwork. In her laboratory she can also use various detection magics. She was once linked to archvillain Adam Maladraviil’s computer system and can occasionally dredge up information that was stored in its database.

Friends of the Club:

Emanuelle LeClair (Thief Acrobat)[Nicky S]: former ballet star and sometimes associate of the Club, daughter of the notorious jewel thief Gaston LeClaire. Emanuelle can be flighty and flirtatious, but hides a shrwed intellect behind her gay façade. The physical resemblance between Emanuelle and Genevieve Fauçonburg has been noted.

Lieutenant Rupert Chalfont Edward Redvers-Ainderbury (Paladin variant) [AJ S] of the Lifeguards, a friendly, outgoing military gentleman whose undiscovered talents are currently being exploited by Miss LeClair. Rupert’s abilities to sense danger, resist fear, and occasionally resist magic are as yet unexplained.

Other missing (but still in play) Monster Hunters are either lost in time, trapped in the Web of Time, or scattered across other planes. They have not been listed here.

Any other person requiring a character to play need only contact me.
