In which the ordinances by which our activities are conducted are explained.

We usually have no problems with antisocial behaviour and the like in the Monster Hunters Campaign. However, since this is a theoretically public forum it seems sensible to make explicit the implicit rules of behaviour. Although these rules are rendered somewhat moot by our moving away from a bulletin board forum I thought it best to keep them around for future use.

1. We don’t tolerate abusive behaviour to other participants, including excessive bad language and insults, or racist, sexist, and other –ist messages. Such things will get removed from the site, and the impressive methods provided by the Website Host for tracking down, banning, or otherwise being unpleasant to offenders will be used.

2. In the same vein, spam (commercial advertisements and get-rich-quick scams), pornography, and other unsuitable materials will be dealt with harshly. I’m advised that the best thing to do with the get-rich-quick stuff is to draw the attention of the local tax office to the poster’s IPP (their internet provider’s code).

3. Some people prefer not to have their details broadcast on the internet. Don’t put other people’s real addresses, e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, or photographs in messages. If you want an anonymous e-mail account for the purposes of participating in the scenario, speak with Mike Cook at Flaxton@M-H-C.org.uk On the other hand, I think we might have to accept that people will sometimes use our real names (but not True Names).

4. Visitors who are not real-life players in the Monster Hunters Campaign are free to contribute with comments and suggestions but we can’t really provide characters in the story for them. This is because the story we tell here is part of an ongoing continuity also done through face-to-face roleplaying, and there are already over twenty players. Sorry.

5. The way for players (or others) to respond with questions and actions is to e-mail Ian Watson the DM (the dungeon master, game moderator or whatever you want to call it - me) at IW@Watsonhouse.freeserve.co.uk Feel free to comment on other players’ contributions as well. If you want to ask something privately or act secretly please make sure you mark your message "confidential" so it isn’t included on the Bulletin Board summary of comments received. When the DM sends you something marked confidential you can’t mention it to other players.

6. Just as when players can’t be at a real-life session of the Monster Hunters Campaign, the DM reserves the right to surmise what your character might do if there is a good reason for them to be present and acting. This is particularly important when you don’t reply by a given deadline about your character’s actions.

7. The Monster Hunters campaign uses a modified set of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition Rules. They’re even more modified for the internet scenarios, since the DM has to roll all the dice. For obvious reasons magic is not commonly known in the MHC’s world but it does exist with a few variations on the standard AD&D spells. The scenario is designed to make knowledge of roleplaying rules unnecessary. Just say what you want to do, and it’s the DM’s job to translate that into game mechanics.

8. And just like in a real-life session the DM has to have the final word, and is right even when they are patently wrong. I’ll try to be no more unreasonable than usual.
