Responses to Chapter Twelve:

Only two responses so far, which may bode ill for the DMs ability to continue to the next chapter. Still, here’s what we had by 7pm Thursday:

From Emmanuelle LeClair (Nicky):

> Fauçonburg [snip] appears to have been transformed into one of the Ancient Dead - a mummy (if he'd been bandaged; but the same class of creature). He burns nicely however.

Emmanuelle congratulates Genevieve on her widowhood. She loves a story with a happy ending...
Perhaps a celebratory party would be in order when all the current unpleasantness is finished with? Emmanuelle knows a delightful little restaurant near Covent Garden....

How much of the body do we need to save to get a death certificate? She thinks it'd look really good in a frame on the mantlepiece next to the Las Vegas divorce papers...

[I've a feeling that Scottish law allows a death certificate to be issued on the basis of witness statements and that no actual body is required - N]

IW REPLIES: I don’t think there will be much that is identifiable as Fauçonburg. However, a verification of the Scottish Law thingie would be really useful.

> Emmanuelle searches the body [snip] There is no sign of the item retrieved from Erounobas.

Typical sneaky villains - they're always hiding the clues!
Any sign of any clues to the identity of Genevieve's mother (or indeed father)?

IW REPLIES: If there are any such clues present they have already been mentioned.

Emmanuelle collects all the bits of mirror and all the other items in case anyone wants to analyse them.

> A little way down the hill Qayrawun finds the terrified Deborah Stankey bound to a tree and effects a rescue.

She's glad to see that the poor child is safe. Offers her some brandy and the loan of a coat.

> Angherad [snip]

As soon as these occult types figure out where Angherad has gone Emmanuelle is ready to charge to her rescue.
Meanwhile a bit of a general search of the area is probably in order. There might be some non-magical clues around the place - footprints, bits of torn cloth, etc.

Emmanuelle will also check out where Fauçonburg was standing and work back along his tracks to find out where he's been. He might have dropped something important.

Also, she'll do a proper search of the area where Deborah was tied up.

Are General Bonnington and Admiral Potter ready to say sorry yet?
If so, there will be a short delay while Emmanuelle accepts their apologies over dinner at the base (Rupert is invited to escort her, naturally). If not, there will be a short delay while some unknown entity sneaks into their quarters and does mischievous things with their cap badges, epaulets and socks. Mlle LeClair is, of course, completely innocent of these pranks.

IW COMMENTS: I appreciate the sentiment, but I think such a major undertaking might require a more explicit bit of dice rolling etc., with a significant component of danger – especially the Bonnington bit, as he has serious people with levels working for him.

Once that little problem is taken care of, Emmanuelle will be available to continue with investigations. Wexford sounds like a romantic place to visit... unless anyone else can suggest somewhere her talents might be put to better use?

From Maraud Qayrawun (Clive):

I'm not sure what other players have in mind, but I sense a showdown in the making somewhere in Ireland.

As Ian points out, however, we should try to have all the facts in place before the end of this shindig, so (if everyone else decides to head for Ireland) Qayrawun will head for Wales, to try to piece together a little of the mystery surrounding who (and what) was "done for" at Strumble Head. I can't but help think we've lost part of this tale at Chalfont St Giles (no references to you-know-what, of course - a thoroughly British tradition, of course, as the inhabitants of any archaeological area can attest) and at Temple Fortune Hill; no matter.

However, I figure that we've seen several of the Hallows now - Bran's Horn (alcohol in the barn), the Halter of Cydno Eiddyn (the unicorn's halter), the Crock and Dish of Rhygenedd (chocolate on the tube), and the Gown of Paddern (the Stankey's dress), but I would speculate also regarding the Whetstone of Tudwal Tudglyd (only because of the link with Tuddle's Point), and perhaps also the Chariot of Morgan the Wealthy and the Mantle of Arthur.

Can we get any links to the other locations Fauconberg visited - Weymouth, Spurn Point, Leamington, Frome and Rhyl? It was obviously his intention to return to Strumble Head (the reason I think we should go there - in his guise, perhaps), and then go on to Ireland.

What do we know of the "pierced eye" symbol? Our old one-eyed friend from Celtic mythology? So, we have a creature (TCM?) who teleported somewhere after collecting the Halter from Fauconberg (who may or may not be able to reform), the Mistress of Ravenloft and her mirrors, and a summoner capable of bringing up Pit Fiends and Aboleths. Would this be within Fauconberg's power at 8-9th level (or is that how we estimated his level?).

IW REPLIES: Fauçonburg is (was) indeed a summoner of this kind of power level. He has previously managed to summon and bind quite powerful beasties using cultist magic and unpleasant things like human sacrifice to supplement his modest levels, but a Pit Fiend is a little beyond his usual league unless he had a sponsor assisting him. Is it possible that he was working for someone else?

I'd like to know what was obtained at Strumble Head, so a side trip there is in order, I feel. Also, Qayrawan and the others lost a SAN point for the decaying Servitor (I think), but what of the other "small pile of matter" - which was the Servitor and what was the other mass? Can you clarify that, please, Ian?

IW REPLIES: It was all the servitor, but bits of the Servitor’s insides have been removed and placed some distance from the main carcass.

BTW(1) - I'm up for a "real" MHC session, after all this electronic jiggery pokery. Thanks, Ian.

BTW(2) - whilst visiting the MHC site to get all this Chapter 12 info, I happened to click on the Hooded Hood site link (as in, ooh, I didn't mean to click on it, but curiosity got the better of me ...), and who should I find but Mumphrey Wilton strutting his stuff. Very Moorcockian (?!), Ian - Dancers From the End of Time meets Jerry Cornelius meets The Avengers. I'm not sure about the other stuff on the site (which, to be honest, I didn't pay much attention to), but old Mumph seems to be parodying both it and most of the comic/fantasy/spy stuff of that era (60's/70's/80's). Hmm.
